In 2011, ClimateWorks Australia published an update to the Low Carbon Growth Plan for Australia. The update analysed Government data to show that Australia's 2020 emissions projections had grown, meaning additional opportunities to reduce emissions needed to be found to achieve a 25% emissions reduction target.

Our analysis found that delaying action on implementing the identified opportunities to 2015 will increase the cost to businesses and households by $5.5 billion to achieve Australia's 5 per cent reduction target by 2020. These costs from delay result from some opportunities being lost forever and others costing considerably more to catch up if they are not begun today.
